Kuala Lumpur

We had the wonderful opportunity to spend our Easter holiday in Malaysia's capital city, Kuala Lumpur.  Having no idea what to expect, we set out on the 5 hour bus ride to visit our neighbors to the north.  The trip was scenic with oodles of palm trees and pineapple plantations plus our first monkey sighting since arriving in this hemisphere (actually, Lial wasn't paying attention and missed the monkeys!).  The bus dropped us at Berjaya Times Square, an enormous mall complete with indoor theme park.  We stayed in a beautiful hotel and spent our evenings enjoying the view from the rooftop club.  Far and away the most notable feature, or features rather, of KL are the Petronas Towers - the world's tallest twin towers.  I am certainly no architecture guru... but these buildings are beautiful.  We opted to go to the top of the KL Tower (the space-needle-ish looking building) so that we would have the amazing view of Petronas amidst the rest of the (comparably puny) KL skyline.  The Kuala Lumpur Central Market (where I unfortunately contracted some type of food poisoning... which thankfully did not hit me until late on our last night) and Chinatown were two of the other stops on our tour.  We got up close and personal with the Petronas towers in the evening for dinner and a beautiful fountain & light show in the Petronas Towers courtyard.  Overall, it was a great maiden voyage out of Singapore and we can't wait for the voyages ahead!
